Covid 19 - Vocabulary (special words )

The Coronavirus pandemic has been in our world for almost two years and in that time, we've had to expand our vocabularies extensively. For this year's Media Literacy Week, we've put together a list of vaccine-related words to help you make informed decisions about the health news you might be reading, watching and listening to. It's important to know what certain words mean, so you can make sure the information you're getting is truthful. Vaccine or vaxxine (noun) A vaccine is a substance that is put into the blood and protects the body from a disease. Example: The Covid-19 vaccine was developed to protect humans from the novel coronavirus during the global pandemic. You might have seen vaccine spelled with an X, like this "vaxxine". This spelling is incorrect, however many people will understand the use of the word as slang. Vaccinated/unvaccinated (verb) To be vaccinated means to be given a vaccine to protect against a disease. To be unvaccinated mean...

Covid19 - Vaccines - One person feedback (vaccines vs. freedom )

(For mobile device reader - turn your device sideway to read )  I'm fully vaccinated. No, I don't know "what's in it". Neither this vaccine or the ones I had as a child. Nor do I know what's in the 11 secret herbs and spices at KFC or in the secret formula of a Coke. I also don't know exactly what's in Ibuprofen or any other painkiller-- they just treat my headaches & my pains. I don't know what's in tattoo ink, botox and fillers, or every ingredient in my soap, shampoo or deodorants. I don’t know the long term effect of mobile phone use, or whether or not that restaurant I just ate at REALLY used clean foods and washed their hands. There's a lot of things I don't know. I do know one thing: life is short. Very short. And I, personally, still want to do things. I want to travel and hug people without fear, and find a little feeling of life "before". Throughout my life I've been vaccinated against many diseases. Measl...

Church / Prayer

Image
please turn your cell phone "side way" to read  “Church is hard. Church is hard for the person walking through the doors, afraid of judgment. Church is hard for the pastor’s family, under the microscope of an entire body. Church is hard for the prodigal soul returning home, broken and battered by the world. Church is hard for the girl who looks like she has it all together, but doesn’t. Church is hard for the couple who fought the entire ride to service. Church is hard for the single mom, surrounded by couples holding hands, and seemingly perfect families. Church is hard for the widow and widower with no invitation to lunch after service. Church is hard for the deacon with an estranged child. Church is hard for the person singing worship songs, overwhelmed by the weight of the lyrics. Church is hard for the man insecure in his role as a leader. Church is hard for the wife who longs to be led by a righteous man. Church is hard for the nursery volunteer who desperately longs fo...

Illustration - Who is a sinner ?

Illustrations -  Who is a sinner ?  I got this from someone else today. I'm not sure who the original author is. I've edited and modified it slightly for illustration purposes: A man fell in a pit and couldn't get himself out! A subjective person came along and said, “I feel for you down in that pit.” An objective person came along and said, “It’s logical that someone would fall in this pit.” A Christian Scientist came along and said, “You only think you’re in a pit.” A Pharisee said, “Only bad people fall into a pit.” A Sadducee said, "You better figure out how to get out of that pit because there are no angels to come and help you." Confucius said, “If you would have listened to me you wouldn’t be in that pit.” Buddha said, “Your pit is only a state of mind.” A realist said, “Now, that’s a pit!” A scientist calculated the pressure necessary in terms of pounds and square inches to get him out of the pit. A geologist told him to appreciate and study the rock str...

Racism - ATT White Supremacy is the problem - 2020-2021

AT&T critical race theory training says white employees ‘the problem’: report By  Lee Brown October 29, 2021   4:24pm     Updated AT&T offers employees training that calls racism a “uniquely white trait” — and tells white employees that they “are the problem,” according to a report based on leaked documents. The telecommunications giant’s “Listen. Understand. Act” training is based on core principles of critical race theory, including “systemic racism,” “white privilege” and “white fragility,”  according to City Journal’s Christopher Rufo , a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. Employees are encouraged to study resources, including one that asks, “White America, if you want to know who’s responsible for racism, look in the mirror,” Rufo said. “White people, you are the problem,” the article reportedly tells employees of why the US is a “racist society.”  “Regardless of how much you say you detest racism, you are the sole reason it ...
